Process

Here’s how she does it!

A lot of hard work and tons of fun go into Penelope Brown art works, with each and every piece designed and produced in Natasha’s Downtown Vancouver studio. You can watch the print-making process take shape in the very first Penelope Brown movie!

The term “limited edition” means that there is a limit to the number of prints produced per run. This limit to the print run is crucial to the value of the work. Print runs are typically done in the low hundreds.  Those over a thousand are often considered suspect in the art market. Penelope Brown makes small runs of between 20 to 200.

Artist assistants often make prints under the strict supervision of the artist. To date, Natasha McHardy is the only person to produce the work.

Each Penelope Brown limited edition is hand signed and numbered by the artist, typically in pencil, eg: 14/100. The first number is the edition. The second number is the number of overall prints in the run. The lower the second number is, the more valuable and collectible the limited editions are, regardless of price range.

Penelope Brown prints are also a great investment as they will increase in value as Natasha McHardy’s contemporary art practice gains further recognition.
